Topic Description

The general population has the right to access high-quality, timely and safe care. Various determinants of health must be addressed to promote good health status. One such determining factor for good health status is nutrition. Proper nutrition plays a crucial role in promoting adequate growth and development, as well as the prevention of diseases and illnesses. However, proper nutrition has various aspects determined by the country’s cultural background, socioeconomic status and political stability. The problems associated with nutrition could be undernutrition or overnutrition, termed malnutrition.                                                                                              Undernutrition is a form of malnutrition that occurs when an individual’s diet lacks the necessary nutrients to maintain proper health and growth. Overnutrition, on the other hand, refers to the state of excess intake of nutrients, which can lead to obesity and other health problems. Both forms of malnutrition are major public health issues. This paper, however, focuses on undernutrition, a major issue, especially in developing countries, where a significant portion of the population does not have enough food to meet their daily caloric needs (Sinha et al., 2019).

Problem Statement

Undernutrition in developing countries affects individuals across all age groups as long they have limited access to the required nutrients. Some of the complications of undernutrition in these countries include; physical and cognitive development issues, reduced immunity to infectious diseases, and increased vulnerability to disease and malnutrition (Murarkar et al., 2020). However, children are the most affected, which could be due to various reasons; for instance, children are primarily dependent on adults, and they also have high nutritional needs (Murarkar et al., 2020). Other possible reasons why children are at higher risk of undernutrition in developing countries include; poverty, which limits access to adequate food; limited access to healthcare, which can result in untreated infections that can also result in infections; inadequate infant and young child feeding practices for instance delayed introduction of complementary foods, and lack of breastfeeding, high food insecurity in these regions, and poor sanitation and hygiene which results in high risks of infections that can cause malnutrition (Murarkar et al., 2020). According to the World Health Organization, undernutrition is a crucial factor in the yearly deaths of children under five (World Health Organization, n.d). It is also associated with an increased risk of morbidity, impaired physical and cognitive development, and increased susceptibility to infectious diseases. Thus, the various adverse impacts of undernutrition emphasize the need to recognize it as a public health issue in order to ensure that children in developing countries are not at a disadvantage due to inadequate access to food and that appropriate measures are set in place to address this issue and prevent the associated adverse complications.

Purpose of Topic

Public health focuses on protecting and improving the health of individuals and populations, as well as reducing the risk of illness and injury (Sinha et al., 2019). Approaching a public health issue from a public health perspective can have numerous advantages, including raising awareness of the issue, developing comprehensive strategies to address it, and providing access to the resources needed to improve the health of the affected population (Sinha et al., 2019). This paper aims to determine if approaching undernutrition from a public health perspective would decrease malnutrition in children in developing countries.

Topic Description

Insert your injustice is define as In 3 -5 sentences define your injustice. It must go beyond one sentence and be specific to your research question. It must be developed and a compressive description of the injustice. Do not worry about the population or medical condition yet.                                                                                                                                             Other instructions for this section: Use credible sources in this part because you cannot make up information. The citation will go around the end of the paragraph when you are finished using information from that source. Also, you need to write formally meaning NO PERSONAL PRONOUNS (we, our, my or you). This is no place for personal opinions either so the word should or need cannot be used. Look at my full list of words and phases in my Writing Style handout that makes your writing juvenile (get/ing, a lot, huge, big to name a few). If you use them I will know you did not look at the videos and are not participating in class. NO QUOTATIONS either. Information needs to be paraphrased and cited correctly  You are explaining what these topics are in an unbiased way. Look at my example about the decline in bee populations and the peer review rubric for guidance. They are both posted in the announcements.

Problem Statement

All of the same writing rules applies for this section as above. Review the rules above or in the writing style handout if needed. In 3 – 5 sentences you are going to establish the problem by discussing the medical condition and population in your research question and why they are at a particular disadvantaged related to the injustice.  You also need to have a final sentence that will give you a smooth transition into the next section. To do this it must include public health issue in it. In this sentence you are going to make a statement that makes that point that your injustice has the potential or already is a public health issue.

Purpose of Topic

Public health can be defined as in a sentence of 2 define public health in your own words. You need to look up several definitions and then construct your own. You can not copy paste someone else’s definition. That is plagiarism. Next research the advantages of approaching a public health issue from discuss them here. It can be several sentences and list them here in this section. The purpose of this paper is to present evidence that approaching insert your chosen injustice here  from a public health perspective would decrease C insert medical condition here for Insert population to be focused on here
