Clinical Highlights Talk: I saw a patient this week who had been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The patient had both psychological (such as excessive worry) and physical symptoms (such as muscle soreness and tension headaches). Because it brought attention to the necessity of a comprehensive strategy in patient care, this interaction was especially intriguing. I discovered how critical it is to concurrently address mental and physical health issues.
I was able to independently provide mindfulness activities and relaxation methods to the patient during this interaction, which my preceptor found admirable. In addition to taking SSRIs as directed by their doctor, the patient was open to these tactics. For better results, I learned from this experience how important it is to combine pharmacological management with evidence-based psychotherapy procedures.
Examining the Future:
Next week, I want to concentrate on differential diagnoses during clinical evaluations in order to strengthen my capacity to handle patients with complex comorbidities. The following is the clinical schedule I have suggested:
Monday: 4 hours, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM
Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. (4 hours)
9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday (four hours)
12 hours in total.
I will send you an email or message to continue our conversation. (Alternative)
The difficulty of incorporating evidence-based practice (EBP) standards into clinical management of patients with mental health problems is the topic of discussion.
If you want any additional refinements, please let me know!
