Transformational Leadership
Good leadership remains at the core of successful health care settings. As defined by (Al, Galdas, & Watson, 2018), transformational leadership refers to a leader-follower relationship in which they work towards achieving the same goal. The model is seen to have a central focus on bringing change to health care organizations. The following scenario reflects on how one of the nurses broke an organizational policy concerning night shift policies. The policy states that no member of staff should be found sleeping during working hours.
The scenario takes place within a surgical setting in one of the most reputable hospitals. The case is about a nurse who used to sleep during night shifts. The case was reported to the nurse manager in charge of supervising medical assistants, registered nurses, office staff, and performance evaluation of this unit. The nurse manager, on receiving the report, decided to undertake a personal investigation on the matter. She found out that the nurse not only took a nap during night shifts but also slept in examination rooms: this clearly states that the nurse had violated the nightshift policy (Jie-Hui Xu, 2017).

Transformational Leadership

The main goal is to encourage the nurse to have a positive outlook towards her job: the nurse manager designates a one-on-one talk with the nurse in a private room and listens to the nurse’s concerns. Secondly, the nurse manager reminds the nurse of her expectations from the fraternity and the nurse. By employing these transformational skills, the nurse’s behavior and attitude can be changed (Giddens, 2018, pg.118).
Calling the nurse into a private room and hearing her out brings out the trust aspect of transformational leadership and builds the integrity between the leader and the follower. These skills can make the nurse improve on her work commitment and achieving organizational goals.
