Nursing Statistics Discussion 8
Statistics and medicine are always mutually inclusionary. As a matter of fact, statistics first developed as a science from the publication done by John Grant in the year 1663 entitled Natural and Political Observation on the Bills of Mortality (Aggarwal, 2018). In this publication, the first-ever life table was created after analysis of weekly deaths in London thus identifying an estimate of the city’s population as well as the identification of increased male births than females. Later on, Medical statistics and Biostatistics fields developed to help solve fundamental issues in medicine and health sciences. Statistics is well defined as a science that focuses on the effective utilization of numerical data with a focus on key aspects of collection analysis and interpretation of data to derive meaningful information (Hines et al., 2016). This paper will discuss new ways in which statistics could be incorporated into my current or future nursing career as well as the areas that its utilization could improve to enhance better service delivery and multidimensional satisfaction.
New Ways to Incorporate Statistics in My Current or Future Career/Daily Life
The full incorporation of evidence-based practice is one of the ways that will involve statistical analysis. Evidence-Based Practice always requires an in-depth analysis of different studies with a focus on meta-analysis and systematic studies. In the long run. The information presented in each peer-reviewed publication is used in deriving a most applicable intervention (Dowding et al., 2018). The intention of all this is usually the identification of techniques that are proven and safer. A good understanding of statistics helps one fully participate in the evidence-based practice thus contribute to the delivery of quality healthcare.
In daily decision-making, data should always be used in determining the appropriate action and the best choices to make. References of data and analytical work ensure that a care practitioner knows what works and what doesn’t (Hines et al., 2016). Similarly, the data helps in the identification of patient patterns thus increase decision-making accuracy and reducing chances of medical errors.
Working with other entities e.g., NGOs, ministry of health among others helps ensure that all data gathered is shared and analyzed that identify regional or national patterns thus identify appropriate systemwide interventions. An example is the sharing of Covid-19 infection rates and the interventions put in place in different facilities. The data has helped in curbing the spread of the virus and has also enhanced better care delivery to the vulnerable.
Statistics in nursing requires teamwork among the care practitioners and researchers. By working together, different skillsets can be utilized through the analysis of big data sets and giving more meaningful information. Another way to incorporate statistics is by engaging the administration in developing better policies that work with a focus on improving quality of care and reducing the overall cost of care.
Ways to Improve Processes in My Field by Use Of Statistical Methods
Understanding statistics puts one in a better position to identify the most updated software that an organization can maximize in providing care. Similarly, the techniques help one focus on evidence-based practice since they have skillsets that maximize the identification of relevant evidence. Quality improvement processes are also initiated at frequent rates in a statistically oriented facility and approach of care. In the long run, the facility ends up improving the quality of care with a focus on patient and staff satisfaction while reducing the mortality and morbidity rates globally.
Focussing on career growth ensures that one gets extensive knowledge in the field and this is often considered as informal statistics. A more knowledgeable person in his/her field obtains more trust from the patients and can work with others freely with a focus on reducing medical errors while enhancing patient satisfaction.
Effective utilization of statistics in healthcare ensures that the facility develops better policies. Ana example is when one policy is overused and produces average results or is costly, Statistics can find the existent flaws and thus emphasize on change of procedures based on available evidence.
Conclusion
Statistics is quite vital in the field of medicine. Each medical practitioner must master statistical analysis techniques and work with other experts in the field of quality of care is primary to them. Similarly, medical research relies on data acquired from different health facilities and it drives inventions in the field. As such, everyone in medicine should consider statistical skills in their acts of personal development.

Question
In week 1, you were asked to analyze the use of statistics in your career field or daily life. Now that you have expanded your knowledge base, let’s reexamine that relationship. Have you thought of new ways in which statistics could be incorporated into your current or future career field or daily life? Are there ways in which you could improve processes in your current or future career field or daily life using these techniques (related to statistics)? Give specific examples and suggestions.
