Nursing Leadership Essay

Nurses contribute immensely to the welfare of patient in any health care organization. My experience in working with different facilities to date has made me agree that there is no care in health organizations without nursing. A strong nurse leader will not only facilitate nurses welfare but advocate for a better patient desired outcome. Most nurse leader I have worked with are very impactful. They find a way to mediate between hospital management, patient needs and nurses welfare of nurses on the unit. The objective of a nurse leader is to identify the effects of unit collaboration and nursing leadership on nurse outcomes and quality of care (Bott, Shang 2015). Among st all the different types of nursing leaders I have come across during my career, I admire transformational leaders the most. I hope and wish before I graduate from Walden University, I will sharpen my skills and add to what I know already about transformational nurse leader. A transformational nurse leader is he/she that behavior helps to transform and motivate his colleague to achieve beyond expectation, thereby eluding self-interest for the betterment of the organization. It simply means leadership by example. Most transformational nurse leaders are nurses who were once floor nurse. I have one in my facility who was once an LPN. He now has his masters in Nursing and our nursing director. He knows what it means when nurses say they are overwhelmed; there is a shortage in coverage, patient rounding is not done timely, high turnover in nursing staff and above all he knows how to collaborate our needs to management and order health care department in the hospital. According to Ma, Shang, & Bott (2015), Nurses reported lower intent to leave, higher job satisfaction, and better quality of care in units with better collaboration and stronger nursing leadership.
