Invisible Patient

ANSWER

 Reflection Post

The Invisible Patients documentary is a film directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Vanessa Roth. It is a moving account of the untold suffering of persons whose mental health issues are too complex to be handled in conventional healthcare facilities.

The NP in the documentary, Dr. Rachel Leonard, works to make mental health care available to individuals in need, regardless of their usual access to resources, making her a disruptive innovator. Dr. Leonard works to break down the barriers that prevent individuals from getting the care they need, such as lack of insurance or transportation.

I believe it is unethical to deny someone access to the care they need just because they may not have the resources to pay for it. I think everyone should have access to the healthcare they need, regardless of their ability to pay. I also think everyone should have access to mental health services, which are frequently overlooked or underfunded.

One mechanism to overcome the barrier of lack of access to care is to increase funding for mental health services and make them more widely available. This can be done through federal and state laws, as well as through private initiatives such as the establishment of mobile clinics like the one Dr. Leonard runs.

The cost of increasing mental health services and making them more widely available is significant, but the potential benefits are immense. Access to mental health care can lead to improved quality of life for individuals, as well as decreased rates of crime, substance abuse, and suicide.
