ANSWER
Since health policy is a major factor in determining the availability and caliber of healthcare, I decided to write about it. I’ve come to understand as a nursing practitioner how important it is to comprehend the policies that affect patient care, healthcare systems, and clinical practice. My knowledge of how health policy impacts everything from insurance coverage to resource allocation has increased as a result of this course. The substantial influence of health policy on vulnerable groups, like low-income communities and people with chronic illnesses, where policy changes can either directly facilitate or impede access to essential care, was one fascinating thing I learnt. I also learned more about the part that nurses and nurse practitioners play in promoting legislative changes that advance health equity and high-quality healthcare for everyone.
Keeping up with the quickly changing healthcare policies was one of the challenges I had when putting this project together, particularly given the complicated and shifting environment brought about by COVID-19 and healthcare reform initiatives. Notwithstanding this difficulty, the course has inspired me to get more involved in health policy since I now understand how effective it is at addressing healthcare inequities and enhancing patient outcomes. As a nurse, I now recognize how critical it is to support local and national policy changes to guarantee that everyone has access to high-quality, equitable care.
