Health Policies

ANSWER

Health Policies

As primary healthcare providers, nurses ensure patients receive high-quality, effective care for better health outcomes. Besides, nurses act as patient advocates in identifying the various issues affecting care delivery and leading policy changes to address these issues. As a family nurse practitioner (FNP), I have the role of providing primary healthcare services to patients of all ages. Some of the significant top three current trends or issues that are most important concerning the family nurse practitioner role include; access to primary care and healthcare equity, management of chronic disease conditions, and the effective incorporation of telehealth and technology in care delivery.

The growing incidences of chronic health conditions have increased the demand for healthcare services, which as an FNP, I believe is our role to address. There are also issues with healthcare inequity, for instance, those from low socioeconomic status and minority groups who are discriminated against. As FNPs, we must address this by advocating for equity by abiding by the ethical principles and values of medical practice, which advocate for beneficence and non-maleficence to all patients regardless of their backgrounds. It is also crucial that there is patient collaboration and that the care plan is designed according to the patient’s values and preferences.

The use of technology is also a significant concern within the FNP role, given the need for remote monitoring of patients, which was especially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of telehealth can therefore improve the FNP practice. As a nurse using this technology, I should also understand the ethical considerations, such as privacy and confidentiality of patient health information, and adhere to the legal and regulatory statutes, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), to promote the protection of patient health information.

QUESTION

This week we will be reflecting on current trends and issues within your role.

Considering your role specialization (FNP), reflect on the top three current trends or issues that you believe to be most important with regard to your chosen role and the impact the role has on patient outcomes. Synthesize knowledge from values theory, ethics, and legal regulatory statute.

Please note:

  • This is a reflection and therefore no references are needed nor expected.
  • There is only one (1) post for this discussion board.
  • There is no requirement to respond to any of your peers.
  • Your response should be 200-250 words in length.

Guidelines: In your discussion response, provide a substantive response that illustrates a well-reasoned and thoughtful response. Reflective posts provide you an opportunity to think back on the concepts and materials you reviewed for the week. A reflection is a method for personal growth. A reflection post can help answer questions, such as, “How has my thinking changed this past week?”, “How can I use the concepts or relationships from the course readings and course content in my practice?” Reflection enhances personal and professional growth by making connections to previous course content and/or presenting novel ideas and insights.
