Health Needs of Veterans and Families

         “Health advocacy is an individual and collective approach that health professions can use to turn these ideas into generalized realities and to create positive health and social change.” (International Council of Nurses, 2008). Every day, I advocate for the needs of my patients and their families. I believe that as a nurse, when you have compassion and courage instilled in you, it makes it easy to advocate.  It is so important that we address the health needs not only of returning veterans but also their families.NURS 6150 week 8 Discussion Essay

            There are two major health concerns of returning veterans.  The first is their desperate need for mental health services.  The second is the health need of clinicians who specialize in counseling returning vets and families with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and other issues that arise.
