ANSWER
Searching for and Evaluating Literature: Filling a Practice Gap by Organizational Type
Acute care hospitals are the organizational type chosen for this project, which focuses on a practice gap pertaining to nurse-patient communication in preventing prescription errors. Poor communication has been shown to be a major factor in medication errors, which have a negative effect on patient outcomes. Finding evidence-based tactics to enhance nurse-patient communication and lower medication mistakes in acute care settings was the aim of the literature search.
The procedure for looking for evidence
To guarantee a comprehensive search of pertinent material, a methodical strategy was adopted.
Databases Chosen:
Because of its emphasis on nursing and allied health literature, CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) was selected.
PubMed: Chosen for its extensive database of biomedical research.
ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health: Featured because of its extensive library of nursing systematic reviews and peer-reviewed publications.
Because they offer access to excellent, peer-reviewed papers that are pertinent to nursing practice, these databases were chosen.
Key words that were used:
“Interaction between nurses and patients”
“Errors in medication”
“Acute care”
The terms “evidence-based practice” and “intervention”
These keywords were selected in order to focus the search on literature that addressed the particular practice gap and improvement-oriented interventions.
Method of Search:
Effective search word combination was achieved by using boolean operators (AND, OR).
To make sure the findings were current and relevant, filters like “peer-reviewed,” “last five years,” and “English language” were used.
An example search query would be: “acute care” AND “medication errors” AND “nurse-patient communication.”
Method of Evaluating the Evidence
Appendices E and F from the Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals were used to evaluate the evidence that was found. As part of the appraisal process, the articles’ quality, applicability, and relevance to the identified practice gap were assessed.
Found Articles:
Forty-three articles were found in the first search.
Fifteen publications were selected for additional evaluation after being vetted for peer-reviewed status, relevancy, and recentness.
Selection criteria:
Relevance to the practice gap: Priority was given to articles that specifically addressed nurse-patient communication and how it affects medication mistakes.
Evidence quality: Preferred were articles with greater levels of evidence, such as meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, or systematic reviews.
Recency: Only papers released in the previous five years were chosen.
Practical Application: Priority was given to studies that offered doable suggestions for use in acute care settings.
Final Selection: Three articles were chosen for in-depth analysis and assignment inclusion based on these standards.
An overview of a few chosen articles
Article 1: Discussed how training programs for nurse-patient communication can help lower medication mistakes in acute care settings.
Article 2: A comprehensive analysis of nursing practice communication tools emphasizing their influence on medication safety.
Article 3: A randomized controlled study assessing how well organized communication methods work to avoid mistakes when giving out medications.
In conclusion
Only the best, most pertinent data is chosen to fill in nursing practice gaps thanks to a methodical and organized search procedure. The creation of tactics to enhance nurse-patient communication and lower medication errors in acute care hospitals will be guided by the three chosen papers.
Appendices
Articles 1, 2, and 3 (Research Evidence Appraisal Tool) are finished in Appendix E.
If applicable to particular non-research papers, Appendix F: Completed.
A summary of the chosen articles can be found in Appendix G: Individual Evidence Summary Tool.
Together with this two to three page document, these appendices are included in the submission.

QUESTION
searching and appraising literature
When conducting a literature review, what are the steps you should you take to successfully search the evidence? Once you have generated your results, how do you properly appraise the evidence, grade them, and select the ones you want to use?
When conducting a literature review, the goal is to produce a set of results that match your search criteria. The results you get will vary dramatically depending on the search engine(s) you utilize and which key words you choose to enter. Selecting the right database(s) is one skill; selecting the best key words is another. In this Assignment, you will hone your skills in both of these important aspects of the search process.
Keep in mind, the results of your search will vary in terms of quality, as well as appropriateness, and significance to your research goals. For this reason, searching is only the first step of the process. The second step is to appraise the results you identified, and based on your evaluations, select the literature that you will select.

To prepare:
· Review the Learning Resources for this week which focus on how to successfully search and appraise search results.
· Review the course textbook Appendices E, F, and G, located in the Learning Resources for this week, which you will be required to complete and submit as part of this Assignment.
· Select one organizational type and one gap in practice or practice change on which to focus for this Assignment. Note: You may select a new organizational type and gap in practice or practice change or, if you choose, you may reuse one on which you focused for a previous Assignment, Discussion, or Blog in this course. Also Note: These may or may not be the same organizational type and gap in practice or practice change as those you will focus on for your Practicum and DNP Project.
· Consider all of the factors you should take into account when searching the evidence, then, using the Walden Library databases, conduct a search related to the organizational type and gap in practice or practice change you selected.
· Consider all of the factors you should take into account when apprising evidence, then, using the course text Appendices E, F, and G, appraise the results of your search.
