Adult Nurse Practice
Adult clinical nursing is an essential part of the nursing program. The medical providers care for a broad patient population, from the adolescent, adults to advanced aged patients. Adult-Gerontology Primary Care course provides nursing practitioners relevant information on handling adult patients in the healthcare facilities. This paper describes the expectations of undertaking adult clinical course. The paper also analyses the strengths, and challenges associated with Adult Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP) practice.
Adult clinical practice is involved in all levels of patient care. One of the practice’s main strengths is to sensibly explain the diagnosis or medical procedure to the patient (Greenfield, Black, Buffel and Yeh 2019). Unlike other age groups, such as children, it is easier to explain to the patients and their family members what to expect with the diagnosis. Adults typically have a wide variety of complications, such as allergies, medical and surgical histories (Miller 2019). Therefore, working in the field enables a nursing practitioner to understand disease physiology better.
The practice, however, just like other fields, presents several challenges. Adults have more extensive and complicated medical issues and histories compared to the other age groups (Kleinpell, Cook and Padden 2018). Nurses are therefore required to conduct extensive research and develop additional skills in the treatment of adult patients. The practice requires evidence based practices which are quite extensive and exhausting.
Adults’ clinical practice presents plenty of opportunities for advancement in the medical field. Adult-Gerontology, Nursing Care course, improves nurses’ knowledge and skills, thereby increasing competency (Cash and Glass 2019). AGPCN practice will also help me accomplish the goal of providing nursing services to marginalized and rural communities. In conclusion, the course also will enable me to advance in ranks to a management position with time.
