Week 4 | Part 4: Research Analysis

I have identified the Efficacy of Group Therapy as my topic of Interest for further study. I have researched and identified one peer-reviewed research article focused on this topic and have analyzed this article. The results of these efforts are shared below.
Academic and Success Plan Template
Step 1: Research Analysis

The topic of Interest: Group Therapy for Patients with Depression

Research Article: Include full citation in APA format, as well as link or search details (such as DOI) Hallis, L., Cameli, L., Dionne, F., & Knäuper, B. (2016). Combining Cognitive Therapy with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for depression: A manualized group therapy. Journal of Psychotherapy Integration, 26(2), 186. Doi https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2016-13479-001

Professional Practice Use:
One or more professional practice uses of the theories/concepts presented in the article Professional nursing practitioners employ group therapy to their clients to modify their emotions, behavior, and cognition to desirable characteristics. This type of treatment is used to diagnose various mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders (PSTD).
The physiotherapy approach provides safety for clients who are hesitant to discuss their problems with one psychiatric nurse. The medical provider uses group therapy to improve clients’ communication skills and the ways they can accept positive criticism from their peers and other people.

Research Analysis Matrix
Add more rows if necessary Strengths of the Research Limitations of the Research Relevancy to Topic of Interest Notes
The research article explained the importance of group therapy in treating mental disorders, especially depression. The research was marred with a lot of delays in the dissemination of the research findings.
The database defined depression and the causes of mental disorder. Depression is not only preventable but also a manageable disorder.
The article is easily accessible. The specific article is easily identified in the Walden Online Library.
The resource had a small population sample size and target population. Principles of group therapy is an essential element in depression management. The approach improves trust and instills hope to new and ongoing patients.
The research article offers recent and updated evidence for the research.
The researcher is required to pay a subscription fee for new users, which is quite expensive. Depression cases have increased over the years, and so many therapeutical treatments need to be analyzed to find better clients with mental disorders. Group therapy is cheaper compared to individual treatment. The team leader focuses on many depressed patients who are on the rise rather than a particular patient.

Considerable knowledge and facts are presented in the article.
The article has suppressed some scientist’s results. The authors have credited some of the facts as their own, which is a form of plagiarism.
The article describes the importance of talking to strangers to reduce depression among the youth. Group therapy enables the therapist to identify the manners in which specific patients react in social interaction.
The article offers credible and authoritative information.
The publication has a small writing font, making it difficult to read with smaller devices like mobile phones. The study provides information on how the patients should understand that they are responsible for their lives. For group therapy to be effective, participants need to develop their goals and objectives.

The study is up to date and was recently reviewed to provide a piece of more accurate information. Limited information on the matter of how and why depression affects more males than their female counterparts. The article provides statistics on the number of people living with depression. Group members share a special bond among themselves and eventually develop a sense of belonging.
The ways of conducting group therapy were analyzed in the study. The information is beneficial to psychiatric nurses and medical practitioners.
The challenges of conducting group therapy to the depressed population are not thoroughly analyzed in the research. The research illustrated the ways group therapy should be conducted. Sharing personal encounters, fears, and opinions helps people relieve some of their burdens and be relieved from factors that cause depression.
Statistics of the benefits of group therapy are presented and analyzed in the study.
The severity of depression in the patients was not recorded in the research study. The statistics of people with depression indicate that more people are at risk of being depressed at least once in their lifetime. Researchers indicate that therapy positively influences clients as they tend to imitate the therapists’ behaviors.
The results of the study are based on real events and real participants of psychiatric disorders.
The sample size was biased in terms of gender representation. More males were used to conduct the research compared to women. The use of real participants in the study indicates that the disorder is common, and people should take proper precautions to prevent and manage depression. Both the clients and the group leader understand themselves by interacting with the group members.
The article has a thorough overview of depression and the benefits of a group therapy approach in treating mental problems. The patients’ opinions about the therapeutical model were not indicated in the research. The article provides all the relevant information and data on the impacts of depression and how it can be managed using group therapy. Group therapy helps to boost the self-esteem of people and imparts information to the clients and the therapist.

I would recommend the article to medical students and practicing therapists because it provides a range of information regarding the mental well-being of clients. Psychiatric therapists should adopt a group therapy approach to provide efficient health outcomes to clients with clinical depression.
Step 2: Summary of Analysis
I realized that most medical resources are written in articles, journals, and books in the Walden Library Database. The first procedure for looking for peer-reviewed research is to narrow down the information on search terms. The lesser words a researcher uses, the more accurate and specific information is obtained. I searched for the terms “group therapy in depression treatment,” and the article I chose was the most appropriate because it had all the information I wanted.
Online database resources contain a wide variety of information. A researcher needs to strategically browse the database in order to get the required information. The first strategy is to write down all the keywords or phrases that describe the topic of Interest. The keywords should be brief and few in number to limit irrelevant information. Another important skill one needs to have is to avoid the use of common words in the search engine. To obtain relevant information, the researcher should capitalize the first letters of titles and names.
Several search engines have developed since the invention of the internet network. Some of the websites lack clear information from sources that are not credible. Peer-reviewed resources are the most appropriate for nursing and other medical students. Moreso, the Science Direct database provides accurate and credible information for science-based students since it has various search terms and information on specific topics. Science Direct also notifies a researcher of new articles that have been recently uploaded based on the writers’ past searches.

Question
Architect Daniel Libeskind is credited with saying “To provide meaningful architecture is not to parody history, but to articulate it.” The suggestion is that his work does not copy the efforts of others but relies on it.
Understanding the work of others is critically important to new work. Contributions to the nursing body of knowledge can happen when you are able to analyze and articulate the efforts of previous research. Research analysis skills are therefore critical tools for your toolbox.
In this Assignment, you will locate relevant existing research. You also will analyze this research using a tool helpful for analysis.
To Prepare:
Reflect on the strategies presented in the Resources this Module’s Learning Resources in support of locating and analyzing research.
Use the Walden Library to identify and read one peer-reviewed research article focused on a topic in your specialty field that interests you.
Review the article you selected and reflect on the professional practice use of theories/concepts described by the article.
The Assignment:
Using the “Module 4 | Part 4” section of your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Template presented in the Resources, conduct an analysis of the elements of the research article you identified. Be sure to include the following:
Your topic of interest.
A correctly formatted APA citation of the article you selected, along with link or search details.
Identify a professional practice use of the theories/concepts presented in the article.
Analysis of the article using the “Research Analysis Matrix” section of the template
Write a 1-paragraph justification stating whether you would recommend this article to inform professional practice.
Write a 2- to 3-paragraph summary that you will add to your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan that includes the following:
Describe your approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research.
Identify at least two strategies that you would use that you found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed research.
Identify at least one resource you intend to use in the future to find peer-reviewed research.
Note: Add your work for this Assignment to the original document you began in the Module 1 Assignment, which was built from the Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Template.
